Subscriptions & Recurring Payments

Improved

• Subscription plans for configurable products are now set on each variation. The configurable product shows a note instead of a plan list, and add to cart checks the plan against the chosen variation.
• Renewals, plan changes and Add to Nearest Subscription now use the variation that was subscribed.
• On the product page, a selected plan shows its own price, such as $40.00 / month. For configurable products, the page shows the lowest plan price across variations as As low as before options are chosen, and the one-time price follows the same rule.
• Choosing a variation updates the options, prices, terms and subscription details on the product page in Luma and Hyvä.

Upgrade

• Plans and purchase mode of configurable products are copied to their variations and removed from the configurable products when you run setup:upgrade.

Improved

• In the Luma mini cart, subscription details (plan, first payment, regular payments, end of the subscription, or subscription and billing period for renewals) now show under each item price and are always visible, as in the cart and checkout. Other product options stay under See Details.

New

• New Payment method page in My Account for Luma and Hyvä. Customers can choose a saved payment method or payment link, and add a new card through add-on modules such as Stripe.
• The subscription page has a Change payment method link to the new page.
• Admin subscription page has a Change Payment Method action that lists the customer's saved methods and payment links.

Improved

• When a customer changes to a saved card, a past due or suspended subscription is charged right away, becomes active again, and the customer sees the result.
• This is controlled by Stores > Configuration > Techimprovement > Subscriptions > Renewals > Charge Due Payments When the Payment Method Changes, which is set to Yes by default.
• A failed charge counts as a failed payment attempt and shows the reason.
• Payment Failed and suspended status emails now link to the Payment method page.

Fixed

• On multi-store setups, the subscription page now uses the store being browsed for its form and links after a payment link is shown, instead of the subscription's store.

New

• New Service Plan product type for SaaS plans and services. It is a virtual product sold only as a subscription, with a feature list, badge and highlight options for plan cards.
• New Subscription Plans Pricing Table widget with plan cards and a monthly or yearly switch. It can be placed on any CMS page, block or widget position, works on Luma and Hyvä without JavaScript, and its buttons add the plan to the cart or open the checkout or cart.
• Plans can have a storefront name per store view, a paid trial, price rounding, a start date chosen by purchase, fixed day of the month or the customer, a per-plan cancel option, a per-plan billing reminder, Offer to Extend for fixed-term subscriptions, and Save and Duplicate.
• Products can have their own setup fee and trial payment price.
• Product page shows a Subscribe and save! message with a tooltip, a plan selector as radio buttons or a dropdown, subscription details for the selected plan, and a start date field.
• Add to Nearest Subscription adds cart products to the next renewal of the customer's nearest active subscription. Customers can remove these items in My Account.
• Checkout success page links to the new subscriptions.
• My Account lets customers change the next payment date within set limits, extend a finished fixed-term subscription, renew a cancelled or finished subscription, and see or remove items added to the next renewal.
• Admin subscription page lets you change price and quantity, apply a coupon code to renewals, and extend by a number of payments.
• Subscriptions grid adds customer group, pause or cancel reason, last order number, date and total, and coupon code, and can be exported as CSV or Excel XML.
• New Scheduled status for subscriptions that start later.
• New emails for Payment Received, Cancelled and Offer to Extend. Send Copies To adds a BCC for all customer emails.

Improved

• Renewal prices use the lower of the signup price and the current price. Renewals also use product advanced pricing, such as tier and customer group prices.
• Renewals fall back to another shipping method when the original one is no longer available.
• Out-of-stock renewals can be retried later or skipped for that cycle.
• Coupon codes apply to renewals.
• Webhook settings are simplified to Send Webhooks, Webhook URL (one per line) and Signing Secret. All events are sent, and existing settings are migrated on setup:upgrade.

New

• New command bin/magento techimprovement:subscriptions:link-accounts links subscriptions bought as a guest to customer accounts.

Improved

• Require Customer Account is now enforced when an order is placed, so checkouts with their own page, REST and GraphQL cannot create subscriptions without an account.
• With Require Customer Account set to No, a customer account is created from a guest order and Magento emails a link to set the password. Subscriptions follow the order when it is later assigned to a customer. Guest orders whose email already has an account are not linked automatically.

Fixed

• Links in subscription emails, such as Manage your subscription and Pay now, no longer show an Invalid return type error for visitors who are not signed in. They are sent to sign in and then returned to the subscription.
• Stores > Configuration > Techimprovement > Subscriptions opens even when Magento's cached email template list is missing the module's templates. Missing templates are listed as Default, not loaded, and the Emails group tells you to run bin/magento cache:flush.
• Emails that cannot be sent for this reason are logged with the template ID and the fix.
